Ebert

One of my favorite writers / critics / bloggers / tweeters is Roger Ebert, as a recent Equire article puts it “Roger Ebert is no mystic, but he knows things we don’t know”.

I agree, and highly recommend his Journal and movie reviews.

The best and the worst

This is one of my favourite film moments – the business card scene from American Pshyco.

This is perhaps the crappest business card (and sell in) I have ever seen.

A f**king nice edit

I never realised they swore that much in The Big Lebowski – maybe that is because my favourite swear expletive is “Fucking fuck fuck”. Desensitized much?

Movies: Downfall and The lives of Others

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

★★★★☆

It was german movie week at our house, and we rented two modern classics. Downfall is about the last days of WW2 in Hitler’s bunker, and The Lives of Others about the East German secret police and a few of their subjects.

Movies: Wall-e

AMAZING. One of the best movies I have ever seen, possibly the best Pixar. But that is too hard to call as they are all good for different reasons.

Can’t wait to get the DVD with extra footage and the making of documentaries.

Movies: City of God

★★★½☆

A good movie, I’m unsure why but wasn’t as shocking as I expected it to be. Maybe because I was familiar with some of the favela stories before watching, although still wouldn’t like to run into those kids in a dark alley.

WALL-E

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

The new Pixar Disney Movie WALL-E looks amazing, the sad part is Australia has to wait till 11th September to see it when it is already showing in America. It will be a long wait, and I’m only holding back because I know it will be so much better at the cinema. In the meantime you can watch the trailers and teasers and the reviews so far are near perfect.

a long awaited finale…

Apparently there is a new X-Files movie coming out on the 24th of July? I’m surprised I hadn’t heard of this sooner – I’d be keen to see the movie as it took up so much of my teenage years. (Apologies to dad for making him tape every episode.) Glad they have gone with the true Fox Mulder, David Duchonvy rather than the T-1000 guy – that kinda killed it.

MOVIE: Indiana Jones 4

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

★★★★☆Classic Indy – cheesy, goofy, unbelievable and hyped to the max. Its refreshing to think someone had 19 years to think about it and they haven’t ‘improved’ it in any way. Overall though I wish they had stuck to a religious theme, had a bit more sweaty Harrison Ford and skipped the very last bit. Cate Blanchett and her immaculate complexion were amazing.

MOVIE: Office Space

★☆☆☆☆

A disappointing movie that never really went anywhere funny, not even stupid funny, nearly didn’t make it through.

MOVIE: Superbad

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

★★★★☆

A unexpectedly funny movie, with painfully acurate moments of teenage desperation, awkwardness and drunkness. Michael Cera is great, I’m looking forward to more of his movies.
